Does RATS do anything? There seems to be very little activity on the message board. Not much on the calendar except tri events in the area.

Are there group rides, swims, or runs? Is there something that I am missing?

I found this site last winter, and there wasn't much happening. A local tri-guy I met said that the lack of activity was due to off season. But here we are in the season, and not much seems to be going on. *scratching head*

Rjacob,

I am a coach and am willing to share what I have learned over the years free of charge to those who want to discuss training ideas. You are right...there is little activity on this site. I live out in AZ but am originally from Western NY and go home in the summers to relax, race and train. I am always open for questions and hearing what others' goals are and how they plan on reaching them. Don't get discouraged. Surf this site as well for group rides and so on but again, I have to agree with you that there doesn't seem to be much buzz.

Pete

RATS is an awesome group in Rochester that does alot if you are a passionate triathlete that wants to excel in your triathlon endeavors!!

One reason the website probably isn't very updated is because we are all VERY active triathletes that would rather be biking, swimming or running, rather than sitting behind a computer....

As of right now RATS has a Tuesday night workout that will be ending this Tuesday but goes from mid-April till the Tuesday after Labor Day.... meeting at 6:30pm at either Braddocks Bay OR Webster Park depending upon which one is more convienent for you. The workouts consist of a 2.2mile run/11.1mile bike/2.2mile run. The bikes are watched while you are racing and there is always someone to volunteer for timing as well. For most of us its considered a race, and/or a hard speed workout!!

Once a year RATS also does a 40K Time Trial at Webster on bike, which is a goood time!

Also, till the end of September RATS is having a FREE to members only Triathlon at Durand Eastman, Sunday mornings, 8am, wetsuits required, Sprint tri!!

For $20bucks a year its quite the deal!!! Pizza once a month after a race, and BEER!! And a whole lot of good people, having a good time, with a little bit of competitive love involved!!!

Hope to see you around!
-Heather

Thanks for the reply Heather. I guess the season is over now. I have already trained for completed my first Ironman on my own. At this point, I may just continue training by myself.

One of the training events we do are Tuesday night Run-Bike-Runs (see links above for details and results).

This year 82 people raced or volunteered at the Eastside RBR, completed 262 races.

This year we added a Formula 1 (RBRBR) and Super Sprint event as "alternative" work-outs on two different nights.

Also on Time Trial night, a 30 K TT option to the regular 40 K TT course was added.

Hi Pete, thanks for chiming in. I may fire you a question or two or three in the coming months....

I have decided to give an Ironman a go after years of ultra-marathoning. At one time or another, I have competed in all the disciplines, but have only done the short Tri's years ago, as I never interrupted my marathons or ultras.

I live here in the Rochester area, and I'm currently psyching myself up for "pool time" this winter. After 10 years of competitive age-group and AAU swimming as a youth and into HS, I thought I had put the pool behind me, but it's a necessary evil.

I'm heading to Panama City Beach, FL this November to watch that race and register for the following year. So we're essentially starting training now! Florida Ironman 2010 here we come!

Yippee!
