Phil Liggett, Paul Sherwin & Bob Roll’s post race analysis of the 2010 RAT’s 40 K TT:
Paul: Well Phil, Dan Jaerke certainly laid down the foundation for his victory in the early kilometers, passing all 12 riders that started ahead of him before the turn around.
Phil: Well that’s impressive, he must have made up 36 minutes time with just 28 minutes of riding.
Paul: No Phil, it doesn’t work that way, it was more like 6 minutes. This TT goes off on 30 sec intervals.
Phil: But he did not pass the hardest working rider ever, Jens Voigt. Jens would have buried himself for his team leader.
Paul: Correct, but then Jens was not there either. By the way, this was a TT.
Bob: The Kilometers were passing like kidney stones.
Phil: Dan was pushing a massive gear. The last time I saw a rider use a gear that big I was commentating on the 1923 Tour when Henri Pélissier finished 23rd in the stage to Roubaix. He must be using a 59x10.
Paul: Not quite. By the way, the turnaround is just past the Château de Orbacker’s, a 1950’s vintage fruit stand owned and operated for generations by one of Wayne county’s elite families.
Phil: Every time we saw the man they call El Presidente he was on the rivet.
Paul: His position is just like David Zabriskie’s. Have I ever told you that Zabriskie’s aerodynamic position is so good he can go 70 kph without moving his legs?
Phil: As usual the peloton started off nervous and the initial break failed.
Paul: They would have timed the catch to perfection, but then again this was a TT.
Paul: BoBke, you were at the finish line, what was it like?
Bob: At the finish it was a virtual schmegelfest of subhumanoids. It is a good thing the Basque fans didn’t show up - the Schlugs had dogs there bigger that Mama Case Elliott.
Paul: And Kim Ammon was the first placed women right?
Bob: Yep, it was like she was the eye of the Lance Armstrong hurricane headed straight for the Jan Ullrich trailer park.
