Summertime is here, ladies and gentlemen! (...and the livin' is easy...)
This past week in upstate NY, spring decided to depart and summer arrived in all its glory. The sun has been shining, the lake is warming up, and strawberries are just about ready for picking - it's a wonderful time of year. The coming of summer means Musselman is almost here, so I'd like to
fill you in on what's shaking for the July 17th weekend.
* ATHLETE VILLAGE FULL, BUT OTHER ROOMS ARE AVAILABLE
* WINE TOUR ON MONDAY
* MUSSELMUSICFEST: COMPILATION CD WINNERS AND LIVE MUSIC
* VOLUNTEER: YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO
* FLCC SCHOOL OF MASSAGE AWAITS YOUR MUSCLES
* NEW SWIM MAPS, NEW BIKE COURSE

ATHLETE VILLAGE FULL, BUT OTHER ROOMS ARE AVAILABLE
The Athlete Village is now full, with over 220 athletes reserving rooms at Hobart & William Smith Colleges in Geneva. We've started a wait list, and we have had a couple cancellations so there's a possibility that waitlisted people will be able to get accommodations.
We have also blocked rooms at area hotels for Musselman athletes, but most of the hotels are going to release the rooms on June 15th. If you need accommodations, now is the time to book; a list of nearby hotels, B&Bs, and inns can be found on the website.
Additionally, for the thrifty shopper we have reserved a block of dorms at Keuka College in Penn Yan, about twenty minutes from Geneva. The rooms are all doubles, with two twin beds each, and linens are provided. Cost is $25 per person per night, and a two-night minimum is required. Sign up for the Sister Athlete Village, as well as the waitlist for the HWS Athlete Village, here:

WINE TOUR ON MONDAY
After Sunday’s hard effort, Monday should be a day for relaxation...perhaps with a glass of Reisling or Cab Franc, while admiring views of Seneca Lake?
Consider joining your fellow athletes and hosts, Ira Smith and Bonnie Osborne, for a post-race tour of some of the region’s finest wineries.
Bonnie and Ira own Grapevine Country Tours and have created two custom tours especially for Musselman athletes on Monday, July 18.
The morning tour will depart Geneva at 9:30 am and return by 12:30 pm, and will visit Anthony Road Winery, Fox Run Vineyard, Miles Wine Cellar, and the Belhurst Castle Winery. Those preferring to sleep in could join the afternoon tour at 1:00pm. This tour will venture to the eastern shore of Seneca Lake and stop at Chateau LaFayette Reneau, sponsor of the half-iron age group awards, and Red Newt Vineyard, Atwater Estates, and Catharine Valley Winery before returning at 5pm to Geneva.
Both morning and afternoon tours cost $30 per person and are limited to 14 people each. To reserve your spot, please contact Bonnie at (315) 585-6769 or info@grapevinecountrytours.com. To learn more about Grapevine
Country Tours, please visit www.grapevinecountrytours.com
MUSSELMUSICFEST: COMPILATION CD WINNERS AND LIVE MUSIC
The Musselman Triathlon is blurring conventional boundaries in 2005. The
all-day display of athletic prowess will now be full of rhythm and soul
with the introduction of live music throughout the course and at the
finish line - played by the same musicians who won the right to be on the
Musselman Compilation CD (in your goody bag) produced by SonicBids.
(Winners of the CD voting can be found here:
http://www.sonicbids.com/voting/standings.asp?poll_id=42)
The main stage will be jamming on raceday, starting at 9am. Located
within Seneca Lake State Park along the Miracle Mile just 2 tenths of a
mile from the finish line, you can groove to rock, pop, and acoustic tunes
as you head out for the run or relax post-race. Musicians will also be
along the course, at venues including the Gazebo at the Chamber of
Commerce and Water Street Cafe in downtown Geneva. Combined with the
State Park's Spray Park for kids, your family will be having so much fun
they may not even notice that you're out doing a triathlon. (Just
kidding.)
VOLUNTEER: YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO
We love 'em, and we always need more of 'em! If you've got a spouse,
friend, or random stranger coming with you who have a desire to help, we'd
love to reward them with a race t-shirt and post-race food. Sign up to
volunteer at the Musselman here:

FLCC SCHOOL OF MASSAGE AWAITS YOUR MUSCLES
The Musselman would like to warmly welcome the Finger Lakes Community
College School of Massage. A dedicated team of over a dozen therapists
will be ready with strong hands and warm oil on raceday, complimenting
another team from the New York State Chiropractic College in Seneca Falls
offering body work and chiropractic care. Look for them, in your weary
and woozy state, at the massage tent just past the finish line.
NEW SWIM MAPS, NEW BIKE COURSE
Last month we debuted new course maps for the run course, and since then
the good folks at MRB group have been hard at work on the swim and bike
courses. The swim courses (both the short and the long) are now available
for viewing at:
http://www.musselmantri.com/races/swim_overview.html
The bike course for both the mini and Musselman has changed in the past
couple weeks, to avoid a bad stretch of road and construction. The mini
is the same distance but follows a more scenic route along Seneca Lake.
The Musselman is mostly the same. New course maps are on their way, but
the cue sheets on the website are accurate if you want to get out there
and try them out.
That's all the news that's fit to print, folks. I hope you're training
well, staying healthy, and enjoying the great outdoors before the snow
returns. We'll see you in July!
kind regards,
Jeff Henderson
